This office provides advice and assistance to veterans or dependents and survivors of veterans regarding benefits and entitlements under federal and state law. There are also potential benefits from veteran's organizations and private organizations.

The VA office primarily counsels veterans regarding potential benefits and assist them in filing claims with the appropriate documentation. There is a wide range of benefits established under VA law including: Compensation, Pension, Education, Vocational Rehabilitation, Medical, Home Loan, Adaptive Auto, Adaptive Housing, National Cemetery System, etc.

Many states have veteran's benefit programs. Alabama has one of the best, particularly our education program, Alabama G.I. Dependents Scholarship Program. (AL GI Bill) and our State Veterans Home Program.

The Veteran's Department has an office in every county except Coosa County. Tallapoosa Co. handles the veteran residents of Coosa Co. Other rural counties have interim offices and are only open one or two days per week.

There are no funds for emergency relief. This office relies on Veterans Organizations and the usual agencies to assist. (HELPLINE should be the initial contact point for screening of each request for assistance. Phone: 539-1000)
